Citadel Movie Review (#31 of 31 Days of Horror)

When Children Attack

Halloween is finally here and since I planned on spending my evening with two wild little girls, I thought I might as well spend the day watching a movie about feral children.

On the day that Tommy’s daughter Elsa was born, his wife was attacked a put into a coma by a gang of feral kids. Now, living alone with his daughter, he suffers from agoraphobia and is constantly harassed by them. When his wife is taken off life support and dies, he meets a crazy priest at her funeral who believes the kids will kidnap Elsa. When it finally happens, he and the priest join forces to rescue her and blow up the apartment complex that’s become the nesting place for those savages.

Ciaran Foy’s Citadel is a great horror film. It’s tense, fun and over-the-top at times, which made for a totally entertaining ride. Aneurin Barnard (The Facility, Bitter Harvest) is great as Tommy. Being a father, I completely understood his paranoia, and was there by his side throughout the entire ordeal. By the time it came to dispatching those little brats, I was cheering him on, “Kill those feral little bastards, already!”

A great film to end my 31 Days of Horror. Highly recommended.
