Social Media Goddess Jennifer Nguyen

Social Media Goddess Jennifer Nguyen

The April 2014 Spotlight Interview is with Jennifer Nguyen… a talent like no other! With almost 1.5 million Facebook followers, tens of thousands of Instagram followers, and dominating social media in general, she embraces new adventures as a wild partier, international traveller, and curvaceous model! You’ve seen her in Maxim’s Hometown Hotties, FHM, Mens Health, Esquire, and a lot more! Enjoy this killer interview!

First of all, how should we pronounce your name?
Hey Everybody!  “Nguyen” is pronounced (new-win) or (win) but either way its a “win” “win” situation [haha] get it? …..so now my corniness out you can also call me “jenuine” like genuine.

Where are you from/live now?
I am originally from Regina, Saskatchewan in Canada! I moved around a whole lot as a kid but I settled in Vancouver for about 6-7 years before moving to Toronto for a few years. I am currently based out of Hong Kong. Taking a year to take over this side of the world as well you know [haha]!

What’s your family background?
I am 100% Vietnamese born in Canada.

Are you fluent in Vietnamese?
I can speak Vietnamese and read just a little bit. Menus, street signs and small sentences but I can’t read a whole book or sing karaoke….though I’m sure if I went to Vietnam for a visit for 2 months I can learn no problem. The neighbours can get ready to hear some horrible broken vietnamese singing…woot woot!!

How did you get into modelling?
I got into modelling by accident actually. I think my first import show I was only 15 years old! A good friend of mine Stan Kwok asked me to fill in for a girl at this auto show. At first, I was like “hell nooo, me?!” LOL! Well, he talked me into it and while I was at the show I got a lot of photographers and other companies coming up and asking me to work with them… Everything kind of just felled into place.

Did you start your career at that point?
I stopped modelling for a couple years and I didn’t get serious again until I was 19.

Most influential gig in your career so far?
Hmmmm… I sat here for almost 10 mins trying to think so hard back to what was the most influential gig….I really can’t come up with one. I’ve been in this business for a while and everything I get I am 100% grateful for. Winning model of the year to making Maxim Hometown Hotties top 100. Shooting with FHM and Mens Health Philippines magazine this year 2014 to Esquire Vietnam…I can’t wait for them to be released!

Did you learn more from any single one of them?
Every one of them has taught me something new. Every one of them has been a great stepping stone for me to get closer to my dream. I would have to say they are all important small or big has made me who I am today. I do however have some charity ideas that I would like to do to help with the animal shelter perhaps a calendar or a fundraiser event…and making that possible will make me so happy.

What do you think is your sexiest body part?
I don’t know which one I think is the sexiest. I have a fair share of people who love my boobs, my legs, my butt, my smile and my eyes… well there are people who are just in love with my body all together. Of course, like every girl I do have parts of my body I don’t like and would love to change but overall I don’t have a favourite part. I try to make them all look the best they all can! LOL! Together they are a team!

Any recent video or acting work?
Video and acting is still something I would like to get more into. I am still doing a lot of modelling and appearances. Since I’ve been in Asia, I haven’t had the time to do much video work plus a lot of film work in Hong Kong is in Chinese and I don’t speak Chinese! I will get more in this soon enough!

What’s your dream job?
I have no clue what would be my dream job. I freestyle a lot in my life. Some jobs that would keep me happy would be owning a food truck or a restaurant in the future, saving abused animals and homeless animals putting them into a shelter and finding them homes. Or owning my own make-up line. I mean, after my modelling and all that these would be a dream come to true to have.

How long can you stay away from your cell phone without going crazy?
When I was in Toronto, I was always on my phone because all my work is on there. Emails, social media and all those messenger apps. I was constantly heading to the phone. I had to put it on silent to do other things because every time it beeps… I’m there! It’s horrible, really. I have days where I don’t pick up my phone or check it at all. My day off… usually sunday.

What about using your phone in Asia?
After being in Asia, I could only use my phone when I find wifi but not every place has it. It really helped me be less dependent on it. I check my things in the morning before I leave and at night before I sleep. Lost my phone in a taxi so for about 3 months I had NO phone so that was a straight out rehab to me! I finally got a new phone and I find that I am not as addicted to it as I used to be. Sometimes I’m walking down the street and I would count how many people are on their phone or staring into it as they are walking… almost EVERYBODY is on their phones! Even when they’re having dinner. I find that very rude.

Do you have a dinner phone rule?
One of my rules is no phone during eating. I heard nowadays people are getting worst and worst at communications and when they meet me their like wow! You’re so good at keeping a conversation. You are so interesting and I said well yeah… it’s starting to make me feel like communication is a talent now! I should really just open up a class to help people with better communications and speaking. what you guys think? LOL!

Are you more of a guy’s girl or a girl’s girl?
I am definitely more of a guy’s girl. Girls are scared of me I think. When I give them a compliment, they think I am lying. Guys seem to understand me much more. I do think like a guy and dress like one on my day off. Snap back converse, sweaters kind of deal. Rarely get my nails done and I’m pretty sarcastic. I have guy friends that would ask me for advice because I tell them the truth. I love video games and superheroes. Beer and chicken wings. I get invited to guys’ bachelor parties a couple times as the honoured guest! No girls allowed… just me! LOL!

Name anyone, alive or dead, who you would love to meet.
Is it weird that I don’t have anybody that I would love to meet? I don’t idolize anybody… I just try to be the best me I can be. Perhaps just my parents. They are the true heroes to me. I definitely need to make some time to go home to visit them.

Give us a fun fact about you.
I don’t know how to burp, whistle or snap my fingers. I love pizza more then breathing and I am a huge sucker for old people. I just want to help them with anything they want or give them whatever they want!

You win the lottery. what do you do with the money?
If I win the lottery, the first thing I would do give my parents a huge chunk of it to pay anything they want plus force them to stop working. Build a house for them in Vietnam and fly their butts there to enjoy. Second I would pay for all my close friends a trip somewhere hot and nice all on me. After, I would invest in businesses and have my money grow! Maybe I can open a restaurant AND an animal shelter!! Woot woot!

What’s the most common question that people ask you?
Horrible as it is… I don’t think this kind of question should just be thrown out there but I get asked “will you marry me” a whole lot!

Do you have a philosophy of life?
Yes! FREESTYLE! Life is full of adventure small or big! When you freestyle you would never get disappointed because plans didn’t pull through. When you go on an adventure with freestyle you will have a amazing time wherever you are. Everything just works out for the better. Think of the positives in things and keep that smile on your face. There are so much in this life to be happy about.

Worst pick-up line used on you?
LOL! Oh my gosh… there are SO MANY!!! I don’t know which one to pick but the one that made me laugh and remember until now would be “baby, if I was a fly, I’ll be all up on you cause your da SHYT” so funny!

Tell us at least one thing every man should know about women.
I wish I can tell you but even I have a problem understanding women sometimes. I agree there are plenty of crazy ladies out there but there are also crazy men. All I would say is never change yourself to make someone else like you. Be real, be honest, be you. There are so many people out there I believe everybody no matter how unique they are, how weird they are or even how different they are will find love by just being themselves. Honesty is key. If the woman isn’t into you because you don’t drive an expensive car, have a big bank account or wear name brands, she isn’t worth it. Let her live in her plastic world and find yourself a real girl.

Are you a big party girl?
I do a lot of appearances and nightclub gigs so yeah, I’m a party girl! Ha ha! Maybe not as big as I used to be when I was like 19 or 21! It just all becomes the same kind of thing you know and when I am not working I don’t usually go clubbing because it’s like going to work for me. Who wants to go back to their work place on their day off? LOL! I would rather go karaoke or a bar somewhere else fun.

Tell us the story of your craziest/wildest night out partying.
LOL! No, I don’t think so. Too many to even try to remember my head will explode… sigh… good times!

Wildest/craziest place you’ve ever “closed the deal”?
Close the deal as in bang or close the deal as in go out and pick up a random guy and close the deal down the street by a mailbox? Ha ha! I didn’t even have my first one night stand until I was like 24 after a serious relationship of mine ended.

Are you into one night stands?
I don’t like one night stands. The first time you sleep with somebody it’s never really the best until you understand what each person likes and doesn’t like. Nope, didn’t enjoy it! LOL!

Give a shout out to your fans…
Giving a special shout out to all of my beautiful and wonderful fans out there! I really wouldn’t be here today without you, heck you guys lifted me up so many times when there were haters after me. You are all real angels to me. I just want to say thank you for being there for me and supporting me. I try my best to take your love and spread it elsewhere. I love making you guys smile without even being there because you make me smile everyday. Love you guys!

Favorite upcoming projects?
Currently, I am still in Asia doing my tour here. I won’t be back to the other side until at least after summer but who knows I could end up staying longer. I been getting a lot of great responses here in Asia. Slowly taking over! Ha ha! I am looking forward to my FHM and Mens Health Philippines feature to be released. Also a feature with Geek Fantasy Magazine which I am super excited about. Who knew there was a geek magazine!? I’m in!! I am also coming out with some limited edition hats and t-shirts “Jenuine” I don’t want to say too much but keep your eyes on me this year. It’s going to be a good one!

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Hopefully owning a business… food… animal… make up… clothing… something like that plus married! LOL!
