Montreal Barbie Expo: Highlights of This One of a Kind Exhibit
Last night we attended a launch party for the new Barbie Expo in Downtown Montreal. Hosted at Les Cours Mont-Royal, it is the largest permanent exhibition of Barbie dolls in the world. Admission to see over 1,000 Barbie and Ken dolls is free. As an attendees, you are welcome to make a voluntary donation to the Make-a-Wish foundation.
Where did the dolls come from?
After two years of searching and negotiating, the massive collection of dolls were either purchased or donated by collectors. There are so many dolls that every three months, a series of new ones will be displayed.
The Fashion Connection
Les Cours Mont-Royal wants to be known as a major fashion hub in Montreal and connecting the Barbie brand with the mall made sense according to Valerie Law, head of marketing.
By coincidence, Mattel (the toy company behind Barbie) recently announced that they will be producing new models of the iconic doll which better reflect female body proportions.
Notable Barbies
Actually, there are far too many to list but some that stood out to me included:
- The Comiccon section
- The fashion show with lights and moving runway
- The choice of Barbies with themes from around the world
- The I Love Lucy selection
- Musical Barbies with Joan Jett, Beyonce, Elvis, and so on
- Sci-fi and Fantasy Barbie dolls like Lord of the Rings and Divergent
This is a Montreal Barbie Museum you don’t want to miss out on. Find out more about the Montreal Barbie Expo in this exclusive interview.
