The Hummus Flavour That Only Canadians Demand

The Hummus Flavour That Only Canadians Demand

While it’s no secret that tastes vary by location, it’s a statement that Canadians are demanding a hummus flavour that even Americans, with their demand for variety, aren’t requesting.

Get Your Party Food Ready

With summer almost knocking at our door, weekends will be soon filled with outdoor bbq dinners, potluck parties in the backyard and picnics in the park. As much as I love cooking for my friends and family, sometimes I need a quick and delicious fix that I can just pull out of the fridge. Cue the entrance for the modern crudité platter, but forget the onion dip and try a salsa or a hummus instead.

Canada’s Very Own!

And this summer Canada will get it’s very own hummus flavour – voted most popular by Canadian research groups – a hummus topped with sweet-roasted caramelized onions and accented with aromatic smoked paprika. Neither one is typically Canadian but apparently it makes our taste buds happy. I got a sneak peak taste last week at an exclusive flavour launch party which was held at Les Soeurs Grises in Old Montreal.

Smokin’ but Sweet

This hummus is being branded as the new Smokin’ flavour by Sabra. The branding is a bit misleading as one might expect a spicy or really smoky hummus. You will find any heat here but I was pleasantly surprised by the sweet onion flavour mixed in with a pinch of smoked paprika. It is very unexpected combination from a hummus but after a few dips (no double dipping please) this new mélange grew on me and kind of calmed my sweet tooth. A healthy extra dash more of smoked paprika would have been more to my liking but I would definitely consider including it as part of my next veggie platter. And I love offering up a healthier option with a protein packed snack.

What d’you say?

Are you a fan of hummus? What do you think of this new caramelized onion with smoked paprika flavour combination? Are you the ultimate platter sinner: a double dipper?
