Dancer and Choreographer Kalyne Leonhardt

The September 2012 spotlight interview is on dancer and model Kalyne Leonhardt. She’s a star dancer with specialties in hip hop, jazz, contemporary, and so many other styles, not to mention a sexy Cali model! Citynet Magazine proudly presents this month’s awesome interview!

Where’s home?
I’m born and raised Los Angeles, California.

What’s your family background?
Mostly German, a bit Polish, Russian, English, and French.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Ever since I could remember I have always wanted to be a professional dancer, model, and spokesperson.

How did you get into dancing?
Ever since I could remember I’ve always been interested and passionate about dance. I guess you can say I was born into the love and the drive to be a dancer. When I was younger my parents couldn’t afford to put me into studio classes. Many of my friends were dancers at the time and I would watch them frequently. I had such an intense passion for dance that I decided to teach myself and learn from watching my friends considering I wasn’t fortunate enough to afford classes. Over the few years of training myself with basic technique and style I auditioned for my High School dance competition team as a freshman. I was accepted on to the team and made captain the next two years!

What about dancing after high school?
After graduating high school knowing I had the passion and natural talent for dance I continued my training and found my second home at Starmakers Dance Academy after a heartbreaking injury my senior year. Elizabeth Ferri (owner of Starmakers) took me in as one of her own, seeing my natural talents, ambitions, and drive. I continued to strive and push my limits. I have now been a teacher at this studio as well as a student still learning and improving everyday. Starmakers Dance Academy will always be a second home to me, and I’m now a role model for the younger students at the studio. It brings so much love and happiness to my heart that I am where I am today. It goes to show you that if you put your mind to it you can accomplish your goals and passions despite certain setbacks that come your way.

That’s a great story! Have you peaked in dance?
I still have MUCH MORE to accomplish, and I can’t wait!!! But this is definitely a great start to my career! 🙂

What type of dancing do you prefer?
My main styles are Jazz, Hip Hop, and Contemporary. BUT, I also do lyrical, modern, ballet, pointe.

Most memorable dancing gig so far?
Every performance is a memorable one to me! It’s my passion! Each and every one always has a hidden personal meaning to me. Every year my studio has a huge dance recital! I’ll let you on a little secret… every dance I choreograph has a hidden meaning behind it that corresponds to an event in my personal life. Kind of like Taylor Swift and her love songs… just only in a dance concept! ;D

How did you get into modeling?
I have plenty of friends who are in the modeling industry and they would tell me I have a natural look for it. I was always interested in modeling and finally took their advice and slowly started getting into it.

Best modeling gig so far?
I’m fairly new to modeling, so I can’t put my finger on just one shoot.

What do you love about it?
I enjoy meeting new photographers, people and experiencing different styles. I love change, and the modeling world has a lot of diverse concepts! Always something fun and interesting to do!

What’s your sexiest body part? What do men think is your sexiest body part?
According to me I think my sexiest body part would be my abs and my long legs. According to men, they comment on my bright green eyes and long legs and booty 😉

Give us a fun fact about you.
My eyes are naturally green but change colors! They switched colors quite frequently growing up before stopping at green… but now they sometimes switch to blue. Many people think I wear contacts!

Worst pick-up line used on you?
This is the worst pick-up line I’ve heard so far haha:“That shirt is very becoming on you…Of course if I were on you I’d be coming too”
[Editor’s Note: Wow, is that cheesy.]

What should every man should know about women.
Stay confident and classy, respectable yet humorous. Making us laugh is the first step in the right direction!

How long can you stay away from your cell phone without going crazy?
Not very long! I’m always on a busy schedule! Aside from that I’m definitely a social butterfly.

Favorite place to vacation?
I haven’t been there yet but I really want to go to Hawaii, Ireland, Paris, the list goes on and on… I just want to travel around the world!

What’s the most common question that people ask you?
What color are your eyes (said in a confused tone) Ha ha!

Any word to your fans?
I don’t have many fans yet, but I’d just like to say I appreciate all the support I’ve been getting so far. Every little bit helps and its people like you that gives me the opportunity to do what I love. So THANK YOU! <3

Favorite upcoming projects?
I have a Victoria Secret/Guess themed shoot coming up! Definitely my favorite styles and I can’t wait to work on this…can’t tell you much more than that! :X

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Continuing my professional dance and modeling career. Hopefully later down the road own my own dance studio!
