Honeymoon Movie Review (#4 of 31 Days of Horror)

Getting Married Was The Easy Part

Like most people, when I see Rose Leslie (Game of Thrones, Downton Abbey) on screen I expect the last thing out of her mouth to be “you know nothing, Jon Snow.” Sadly, she doesn’t say that much anymore but at least she’s still making movies like Leigh Janiak’s Honeymoon.

Bea and Paul are off to the Canadian countryside for their honeymoon. All is fine and dandy until Bea disappears in the middle of the night, only to be found naked in the middle of the woods with no memory of what happened. Now she’s acting funny and paranoia is tightening its grip on Paul, causing him to lose trust in the woman he married, if in fact that is who he’s now honeymooning with.

Both Scotish-born Leslie and Brit Harry Treadaway (Cockneys VS Zombies, Control) put on their best American accents which for the most part, aren’t too awkward. Though I don’t understand why this film couldn’t take place in Europe or even why two foreigners couldn’t decide to vacation in Canada. All that aside, Honeymoon had some moments of well placed tension and Treadaway and Leslie have great chemistry together. The slow deterioration of their relationship culminates in a somewhat expected climax, but it still kept my eyes glued to the screen until the final frame. Recommended.
