Montreal Comiccon 2026 Goes Back to Its Comic Book Roots

Montreal Comiccon 2026 Goes Back to Its Comic Book Roots

Over the years, Montreal Comiccon has had its Hollywood celebs, voice actors, nostalgia, cosplay, panels, and collectibles, and this year is no different. And of course it always comes with that the simple joy of walking through a convention hall surrounded by people who love the same strange and wonderful things you do is a uniquely satisfying experience. For the 2026 edition, let’s start off by talking about the original reason we came together for this wondrous event: Comics.

Back to the Books

Montreal Comiccon 2026 takes place July 3 to 5 at the Palais des congrès, and while there are plenty of recognizable names from film, television, horror, animation, wrestling, and video games, this year’s early guest list has a particularly strong comic book presence. For longtime fans, that gives the event a bit of a “back to roots” feeling.

Yes, the celebrities will get attention and it’s part of the fun. But for many of us, Comiccon started with the books themselves: the covers, panels, characters, artists, writers, signatures, and the thrill of meeting someone who helped create something that stayed with you for decades.

Rick Leonardi and a Cover That Still Stands Out

One name that stands out to me is Rick Leonardi, whose credits include Spider-Man 2099, Cloak & Dagger, and The Uncanny X-Men. This one hits personally because I bought that Cloak and Dagger comic when it came out, and to this day I still think of that cover as iconic. That’s the kind of thing that makes meeting comic creators different from meeting a screen actor. You’re meeting someone connected to an object, memory, and even a specific moment in your life as a fan.

Major Comic Book Talent on the Guest List

Leonardi is far from the only major comic talent scheduled for the weekend. The current creator lineup includes David Finch, known for work on Batman, The Darkness, and Wonder Woman; Jeph Loeb, whose credits include Batman: The Long Halloween, Batman: Hush, and Spider-Man: Blue; Bart Sears, known for Justice League Europe, X-O Manowar, and Heavy Metal Magazine; and Mike McKone, whose credits include Fantastic Four, Teen Titans, and The Amazing Spider-Man.

A Strong DC and Superman Connection

There is also a strong Superman connection this year. Tom Grummett, known for Adventures of Superman, Superboy, and The New Titans, is scheduled to appear again. Yanick Paquette, whose credits include Wonder Woman, Superman, and Batman, is also on the list. For DC fans, that gives the comic creator roster some real weight.

Local, Canadian, and Pop Culture Creators

The lineup also includes a mix of local, Canadian, indie, and pop culture-friendly creators. Sweeney Boo, known for Harley Quinn, Cruella, and Over My Dead Body, brings a modern fan-favourite touch. Terry “Aislin” Mosher brings a different kind of legacy entirely, with decades of sharp political cartooning behind him. Troy Little, whose work includes Powerpuff Girls, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, and Rick and Morty Vs. Dungeons and Dragons, adds another fun corner of pop culture to the mix.

Archie Comics Fans Get Their Moment Too

Archie fans are not left out either, with Dan Parent, Brianna June, and Sami Francis among the creator names listed. For fans who grew up with digest comics, supermarket racks, and the eternal question of Betty or Veronica, that part of the guest list has its own nostalgic pull.

The Celebrity Side Is Still Stacked

Of course, Montreal Comiccon 2026 is still a full pop culture event, and the celebrity side of the lineup is already stacked.

Tom Welling, best known as Clark Kent in Smallville, has been added to the guest list, which gives Superman fans another reason to pay attention. He joins other television and film names including Lea Thompson from Back to the Future and Howard the Duck, Robert Englund from A Nightmare on Elm Street and Stranger Things, Ron Perlman from Hellboy and Sons of Anarchy, Giancarlo Esposito from Breaking Bad, The Mandalorian, and The Boys, Robert Patrick from Terminator 2 and The X-Files, James Marsters from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, John Barrowman from Doctor Who, Torchwood, and the Arrowverse, and Wallace Shawn from The Princess Bride, Toy Story, and The Incredibles.

Voice Acting, Gaming, and Animation Favourites

There are also plenty of animation, anime, and video game favourites, including Troy Baker, Neil Newbon, Yuri Lowenthal, Sean Schemmel, Maile Flanagan, Tara Platt, David Kaye, and others.

Why the Comic Creators Matter

That is the beauty of Montreal Comiccon now. It can be many things at once. It can be a place to meet television icons, horror legends, anime voices, wrestling names, gaming stars, and cosplay creators. But this year, the comic book side feels especially worth highlighting. Comiccon has grown far beyond comics, and that growth is part of its appeal. Still, there’s something satisfying about seeing a guest list where comic artists and writers are not just background names beside the celebrity photo ops. They are part of the reason to go.

A Weekend for Collectors and Lifelong Fans

For collectors, it’s a chance to bring a favourite issue and have it signed. For younger fans, it is a chance to discover the people behind the stories. For older fans, it’s a chance to reconnect with the books that pulled them into this world in the first place.

Back Where It Started

Montreal Comiccon 2026 will have the stars, crowds, costumes, vendors, and spectacle. But for comic book fans, this year’s edition also offers something more personal: A chance to go back to where it all started: The comics.
