Thanos Creator Jim Starlin Talks AI, Comics, and the Future of Art

Legendary comic book creator Jim Starlin provides his view of artificial intelligence and its growing role in comics and art. Starlin offered a practical take. He has concerns about AI, especially on the military side, but sees the technology as something artists will have to deal with. He has even experimented with it himself, using it sparingly for backgrounds in upcoming books.

Still, Starlin made it clear that AI isn’t magic. He said the tools require careful prompting, editing, and Photoshop work before they produce anything useful. The most compelling idea from the interview was his point that artists may not be replaced by AI, but by other artists who know how to use it.

It’s a short, thoughtful conversation with a comics legend on AI, creative disruption, and why human skill still matters.

This exclusive interview took place at Montreal Comiccon 2025.
