Remembering Peter Cullen: Our Unpublished 2016 Interview with the Montreal Voice Behind Optimus Prime
Peter Cullen, the legendary Canadian voice actor best known as the voice of Optimus Prime in Transformers, has died at the age of 85. Born in Montreal in 1941, he built an extraordinary career that spanned more than five decades, becoming one of the most recognizable and beloved voices in animation. Beyond Optimus Prime, Cullen was also known for voicing Venger in Dungeons and Dragons, Eeyore in Winnie the Pooh, and for countless other roles across tv, movies, and video games.
Back in 2016, we had the opportunity to interview Peter Cullen. Somehow, that interview never made it onto the site. With the news of his passing today, we went back into our archives and found it. Ten years later, we’re finally publishing the interview as a tribute to Cullen and the remarkable connection he had with generations of fans.
For those of us who grew up with Transformers, Cullen wasn’t simply an actor performing a character. That voice was Optimus Prime. Here is our 2016 exclusive interview with Peter Cullen at Montreal Comiccon.
