In 2015, award-winning filmmaker Chris Bavota took on a Halloween challenge. His plan was to watch a different horror movie every single day throughout October and write a review of each one for Citynet Magazine. For 31 days, Chris immersed himself in horror movies, from supernatural thrillers and disturbing psychological stories to vampire films, gruesome comedies, and some truly bizarre productions. He shared his thoughts on each one, including what worked, those that didn’t, and the films that were actually worth watching. Some impressed him, while others left him wondering why he’d even bothered. Now, more than a decade later, we’re revisiting his 31 Days of Horror series in case you’re looking for something to watch this October. So you can stop the endless search for horror movies on whatever streaming platform you have, and just look for these!
Whether you want to organize your own Halloween movie marathon, discover something different, or revisit a few forgotten horror films, here’s the complete collection of Chris Bavota’s original reviews.

Which horror movies were the best?
After completing his month-long marathon, Chris published one final article looking back at the experience and ranking the movies he enjoyed most, along with those that disappointed him.
In his 31 Days of Horror Recap: The Best & Worst Horror Movies, he revealed his favourites, with Rigor Mortis, Rabies, and Witching & Bitching taking the top three positions.
If you’re not quite ready to commit to watching all 31 movies, his final recap is a good place to start. Of course, horror is subjective. Yes, it’s obvious but it has to be said. And Chris’ taste is informed but also particular. As you know, one person’s terrifying masterpiece is another person’s two-hour waste of time. That’s part of what makes reading these old reviews so entertaining. It’s also worth remembering that these reviews were written in 2015, so he wrote his reviews with that time period in mind.
More than a decade later, the series remains a fun collection of horror movie discoveries, opinions, and recommendations. So if you’re wondering what to watch this Halloween season, why not take a look at Chris’s list? You might discover a new favourite, find a forgotten gem, or even decide to attempt your own 31-day horror movie marathon. Just don’t blame us if you have nightmares!
