Blood Lake Movie Review (#13 of 31 Days of Horror)

Water Worms Gotta Eat Too

Once again, it isn’t safe to go into the water. Or to stay on land, or even in your house for that matter. Nowhere is safe. A desperate lamprey is a dangerous lamprey and I’ve never seen such desperation in Petromyzontiformes before.

Michael (Jason Brooks, Asteroid VS Earth, Intrepid) has moved his family to a small lake town for the summer. He works for the Parks and Wildlife department and was brought in to help control the local lamprey population before something really bad happens. And then something really bad happens. The lampreys’ food supply runs out and there’s only one food source left: HUMANS!

Blood Lake: Attack of the Killer Lampreys is by no means a good movie, but it is extremely entertaining if you enjoy watching stupid characters trying to survive a ridiculous situation. Plus you could play an amazing drinking game and down a shot every time someone says “lamprey.” You’ll be drunk within fifteen minutes. Christopher Lloyd (Back to the Future, Piranha 3D) is always fun to watch, though he doesn’t do too much in this one. Seeing him die on the toilet is worth the price of admission, though I wouldn’t suggest paying any money to watch this one.

It seems weird to recommend Blood Lake when other similar films are a whole lot better, but I did find myself often laughing out loud at the absurdity of it all. Recommended, though you could also just watch Piranha 3D (or preferably the original) and have an equally good time.

Availability: Netflix US, Netflix Canada
