6 Tips for Hosting a Christmas/Holiday Party

Holiday parties can be a great deal of fun. If you’re hosting a holiday party this year, make sure that your guests enjoy every moment by planning ahead. Not only will your guests appreciate all the effort that you put into planning a party, but pre-planning can also save you both time and money.

Plan Your Menu

If there’s one thing that every holiday party should have it’s an abundance of good food. When planning your menu, consider everyone on your guest list. Some people may be vegetarians while others may have certain food restrictions. While you don’t have to call everyone in order to find out about diet concerns, you should have an array of foods that everyone can eat. Think about including Kosher, vegetarian, and low-salt/fat options in your menu.

Include an Array of Drinks

Don’t assume that everyone who attends your party will want to drink alcohol. While you should have a number of different alcoholic beverage options, it’s also wise to have some non-alcoholic options (including soda, hot chocolate and non-alcoholic adult drinks).

Make People Comfortable

Make sure that you have enough seating for all the people on your list. Even though it is highly unlikely that everyone will want to sit at the same time, it’s a good idea to provide enough seating just in case. Line couches and chairs with pillows and provide a number of seating options throughout your home.

Stock the Bathroom

There are few things more embarrassing than being forced to ask a host for toilet paper. Take the time to stock your bathroom with plenty of paper, hand towels, soap, and other toiletries. You may also want to clean out your medicine cabinet – just in case you have curious guests.

Be Courteous

It’s easy to become angry with a guest who doesn’t use a coaster or starts to snoop in your refrigerator. However, keep in mind that you are the host. This means that you must smile and be courteous no matter what. You can always keep those annoying guests off of your guest list next year!

Turn off the TV

Few things ruin a holiday party faster than television. Hide television remotes, so that guests cannot turn your TV on. Instead of television, fill each room with background holiday music, light candles, and set an atmosphere of cheer.

Your next holiday party can be a great success with some careful consideration and planning. Just keep the aforementioned tips in mind, and your parties will become the talk of the town in no time.
