With everything being photographed and posted on social media, we value disposable fashion because it helps keep things fresh, exciting and new, but what about those of us who still prioritize the quality of the garment? Brand names and high-end clothing are even more expensive now that we only like to wear clothes a few times and months apart. That’s where Atelier Privé comes to the rescue!
What is Atelier Privé?
Atelier Privé is a high-end dress lending service, offering designer dresses and jumpsuits for rent, at a fraction of their retail price! Their showroom is located in Ville Saint Laurent (a 10 minute walk from Du College Metro). Instead of buying a dress that you will wear once, you can rent it for three days, rock it and return it. They even take care of the dry-cleaning.
I tried on several beautiful dresses before deciding which one I wanted for a wedding.
They also take designer dresses on consignment! So if you have to buy a dress in a specific colour, as a bridesmaid for example, or if you splurged on a stunning dress that you don’t want to wear again just yet, you can consign your dress and be awarded with a percentage of the rental price each time it’s rented! I can’t think of a better way to relieve the guilt that derives from an expensive splurge…
An Interview with the Owners
Atelier Privé was started by two best friends, Olivia Maicas and Rachel Ohayon. After taking a tour of their beautiful showroom, I sat down with these #bossbabes for an interview.

How did you girls come up with the concept of Atelier Privé?
The idea behind the company is pretty simple, make high-end designer fashion accessible to a larger group of consumers. We haven’t re-invented the wheel, in the US millions of women have already embraced the concept of designer rental, but the Canadian market still has some catching up to do. For years we have talked about how hard it is to find the right dress to wear to an event. That’s when we decided to take matters into our own hands and Atelier Privé was born.

Why do you think renting has become such a popular trend?
Renting has gained in popularity because it’s affordable, it’s green and it allows you to keep up with today’s latest trends. We believe that modern women don’t feel the need to own what they wear, they care about how they feel when they put on a dress. Atelier Privé wants to empower women by giving them access to a showroom full of current, quality, designer pieces at an affordable price. It also allows women to take risks and try different styles without having to commit.
How would you describe your collection and what is your selection process?
Our collection ranges from timeless wardrobe staples to more daring statement gowns. We mostly carry new dresses that we selected as well as some consigned items. Each piece was carefully curated for our clientele. We are currently working on expanding our collection to wedding gowns and accessories.
What is the best part about owning this business?
Helping women feel beautiful is our mission. Our biggest satisfaction is seeing someone leave our showroom with a smile or expressing how great they felt the day they wore our dress. Another perk is getting to work along side your best friend everyday!
