Why AI Art Might Fail: DC & Marvel Veteran Tom Grummett Isn’t Buying the Hype

Legendary comic book artist Tom Grummett talks about the rise of AI in the art world.

Grummett voiced concern about companies using AI to replace human artists, saying, “I would not be interested in having a machine attempt to entertain me.” While open to AI as a tool under an artist’s control, he warned against relying on prompts alone to generate art.

To young artists, his message was simple: “Pick up a pencil and play. None of your mistakes will be fatal. Just keep practicing.”

In a world where AI is gaining ground, Grummett reminds us what real creativity looks like.

This exclusive interview took place at Montreal Comiccon 2024.
