Wonderz Wafflez in Laval Is a Late-night Dessert Spot Worth Knowing About

Montreal has no shortage of places built around sugar. Between Homer’s Donuts, ice cream shops galore, bubble tea spots, chocolate cafés, and trendy dessert places, you can find something sweet in almost every neighbourhood. But that doesn’t always mean they’re open. Take Kem CoBa for example. They have great ice cream but remain closed for the winter as it’s a seasonal ice cream shop. Laval doesn’t have as many options as the Island of Montreal but it does have a few options such as Wonderz Wafflez.

There are restaurants, cafés, and plenty of fast food options in Laval, but when it’s later in the evening and someone says, “Let’s go for dessert,” the choices don’t always feel endless. That’s part of what makes Wonderz Wafflez stand out. It gives Laval a real dessert destination, the kind of place you can visit after dinner when you’re not ready to go home yet.

I went on a Thursday night around 9pm with my friend Dave after dinner. He suggested dessert, and we decided to give it a try. I didn’t expect the place to be packed, but it was busy enough to feel like we had stumbled onto something. For a dessert place on a weeknight in Laval, that says a lot. You don’t come here, or any of these sugar hubs for health and wellness but it’s a great once-in-a-while sweet treat. And that’s what we were looking for.

A Dessert Place That Feels Like a Hangout

Wonderz Wafflez doesn’t feel like a quick grab-and-go counter. It feels more like a place where people go to sit, talk, share something sweet, and stretch the night a little longer. That may be one of the reasons it works. this dessert place is about a social outing as much as it is about the sugar. You go after dinner, after a movie, after shopping, or when you want to meet someone without committing to a full meal. A good dessert spot gives people a reason to stay out, especially in an area where late-night casual options can feel limited.

The space also seems built for that. I had looked at some reviews and they mentioned that it’s clean, aesthetic, welcoming, and good for friends, families, and kids. That matches the feeling I got when I went. It had the energy of a place people were choosing as part of their night, not just somewhere they happened to pass by. I was actually surprised to find moms coming in with their kids to pick up an evening snack.

The Menu Is Built for People Who Want Options

The menu at Wonderz Wafflez leans into being a little overwhelming. They have crepes, waffles, pancakes, cakes, milkshakes, fruit desserts, chocolate-covered strawberries, Dubai-style desserts, cookie options, and multiple options and variations of each of them. I asked for an explanation since it was our first time there and was immediately had two thoughts. First, wow this is a lot! And second, I can see a return in the future to try so many different items. That’s assuming I enjoyed it this time. It’s the type of menu where you may need a few minutes to decide, especially if you’re going with someone and trying to figure out what to share.

That variety is part of the appeal. Some dessert places are built around one thing. Wonderz Wafflez feels more like a full dessert playground. You can go rich and chocolatey, fruity and fresh, creamy, crunchy, or completely over the top.

I was impressed by both the presentation and the taste which means something because I am into sweets and I often find that they look better than they taste. Based on my visit, this one delivered.

The Crepe Was the Winner

I ordered the strawberry crepe with ice cream, and it was excellent.

That was the standout for me. It was rich, satisfying, and exactly the kind of dessert you want when you’ve already had dinner but somehow still have room for something sweet. A good crepe has to balance texture, filling, and sweetness. This one did that well.

Dave had a slice of cake, and we also shared a cookie. The cake was solid, and the cookie was fine, but we probably could have skipped it. That’s not really a complaint. It’s more that the crepe was strong enough to carry the experience on its own.

Why It Works in Laval

Wonderz Wafflez works because it fills a real gap. Laval has plenty of places to eat, but a lively dessert spot that’s open late and feels like a destination is useful. It gives people somewhere to go after dinner without crossing into Montreal. It also gives families, couples, groups of friends, and dessert lovers a casual place that feels a little more special than just grabbing something from a drive-thru or grocery store. The atmosphere was there to make it a lively place. Of course, you could always pick up your order and head to. third space to enjoy it elsewhere.

Should you go?

Yes! Would I go back? Yes, especially for the crepe. Wonderz Wafflez is the kind of place that makes sense when you want something fun, casual, and indulgent. It’s especially good if you’re in Laval and looking for a late-evening dessert option that feels like more than an afterthought.
