Getting free plane tickets is actually not that difficult. Just read this article and get started on your next vacation flight or business trip!
Free Plane Tickets
Every single day hundreds of people get free plane tickets from major airlines (American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Northwest Airlines, Air Canada, jetBlue, SouthWest Airlines, and so on). Even if the airline companies lose money, they figure they can make it back using the method described here.
Why would airlines give away free tickets?
More importantly how does it work?! First, you must understand that all major airlines overbook their flights. For example, if an American Airlines plane carries 100 people, they will sell 110 tickets, assuming that about 10% of them won’t show up. A lot of people actually miss their flights because they arrived at the airport late and missed the plane, were too ill to travel, or simply changed their mind at the last minute.
Since airlines want to maximize their profit while simultaneously not piss people off, they have devised a brilliant plan. If a flight is overbooked and everyone shows up (or at least one person beyond the plane’s seating capacity), they have to kick people off the plane. In order to keep passengers satisfied, they offer financial incentives.
Just before boarding, the airline representatives will announce that the plane is oversold and ask if anyone wants to step off. People with the most flexible schedules will agree and as a “thank you” the airline will typically reward the person with hundreds of dollars in airline ticket coupons. These vouchers are usually good for one year and up to about $500 off your next flight. That’s quite the discount, especially if you paid less for the ticket in the first place. Yes, they actually give you more than you paid to compensate you for the inconvenience.
How to optimize your chances of getting free plane tickets
One way to increase the odds of you being the one chosen to step off the plane is to volunteer at the desk, before they even make an announcement. This can be very effective, especially during peak travel periods such as December 23 & 24th. You will arrive at your destination a little later and have a free second flight on your back pocket!
Oh, and when do you get to where you want to go? The airline will place you on the next flight out or a flight that requires a transfer. Sometimes you can get a voucher for $300 for a 1 hour wait. Not bad at all! For the record, I have been in exactly this situation and received the voucher. Trust me, it’s great!
Note that these free plane ticket deals rarely include a free companion airline ticket meaning that if you are traveling with someone, they won’t be included unless enough people showed up for the flight and they needed multiple people to step off the plane. Even then, other people may have stepped forward and asked to be on the list of passengers wanting to be booted in exchange for a free plane ticket voucher. So two free airline tickets is not out of the question, you just have to play your cards right and hope a couple of people don’t show up to your overbooked plane!
One Last Way to Get Free Airline Tickets
There are a few completely different ways to get free plane tickets. They all revolve around free airline ticket promotions. Credit card airline tickets are essentially free if you spend a certain amount on the card. There are various promotions such a Wendy’s and Polident which gave away free tickets. Free airline tickets for military personnel are sometimes available as well.

Wow. The above 3 commenters are morons. I bet you think that since you worked so hard at writing a little blog comment you now deserve to get free plane tickets. This is an article about how to get free airplane tickets by using the ideas presented. It’s not a free-for-all plane ticket give-away. Where does it say that this site is an airline or ticket distributor? Why would anyone give people as dumb as you free tickets?! Here’s an idea: Get a job and pay for the tickets yourself. I cant say that i have a sad story in order to get free tickets but i can say i cant afford them. I live in Newport News VA and I was invited to sing in Dallas TX . Its a great honor for me but i just cant afford to go. The event is on July 24. Hopefuly you will feel honerd to bless me with some tickets. Please give me a free ticket and one for my daughter too. I have a good job and can afford the ticket. Also I have no real reason to use the ticket except I want to go to virginia for vacation. Can I please have one…OMG!!!!!! Who in their right mind would hand out tickets to these people? I promise to pay you back… yeah right. Anyway….
I have done this (getting the free tickets from airlines). Almost every time I have flown they asked this question and I agreed the few times I did not have my infant in tow (baby + flying=no fun). The one time I only had to wait an extra hour, and they gave me a meal voucher (American Airlines) the second time I had to wait almost 3 hours and instead of a non-stop flight I got one stopover. It was well worth it though. I agree about volunteering as soon as you get to the gate. It works best when flying alone, so if you travel on business and have a flexible schedule (plan to fly one day ahead of when you normally would go) you can accumulate enough tickets for your whole family to fly free for vacation or whatever.

This begging is not the way to have their flight needs met, but some of them are probably trying other means as well.

Good article. It’s funny that the comments are all thinking that you’re giving away tickets. Anyway, I actually have a comment related to the article!
About a year ago I was on a business trip and when I arrived I was pulled aside and they asked me if I’d be willing to switch airlines (I was flying on United and they wanted me to go on Delta) and they offered me a ticket voucher. I was only traveling that day and it didn’t really change my schedule much, so I agreed.
I plan on asking at the counter before I check in to my flight every time I fly to see if I can do this. What a terrific way to get an extra flight!

I know this sounds strange but I got married about three years ago, I recently became disabled with torn rotator cuff and lower back injury. I have full custody of my thirteen year old son, and I am on disability now due to my injury. My wife recently left me and I am worried about a divorce, since we have now been seperated for almost five months now. I won a trip but I need airfare. I would really love to take my wife to hopefully rekindle our love, I hope. I still love her, and I think she still loves me as I do see her at times, but not as often and it hurts. I really miss her. I am only 40 and I know I can make her happy still. I’ve never stopped cooking and keeping house the best I could. I would much rather be working the coal mines again.

My daughter called, all freaked and terrified. She’s got medical problems and no insurance. She needs to be seen by a doctor and the only way she can be seen is here, in Alaska. She is losing her sight, rapidly, and we are trying to get her here. She needs a ticket from Fayetteville, AR to Seattle, WA. I have the miles to get her here from Seattle, but cannot help her with the first leg of her journey. We have a few days left and this is the only way I know to ask anyone out there, to help her. If you want the free tickets, do what it said to do in the article. and to the homeless guy, your homeless. hitchhike or walk or get enough money together for a BUS ticket. they are cheaper and honestly, what with airline wait times and what not, faster at times. For all the people begging for free tickets, if you wanna get to another country, find someone who is doing a boat voyage and see if they will take you on as a crew member. Hey, you may even get some cash in hand too. and to the guy with aids, you dont have enough money for a plane ticket yet you have enough money for those drug cocktails? Doesn’t make sense. If you can find cheaper versions of the same stuff, find it and use the money you save on the plane ticket. everyone else, STOP BEGGING and do something. search for cans and take them in, 5 cents per can!

I’m really starting to doubt there is any humanity left.
I’m about to be cleared with my new passport and my fiancee is sick in the hospital in the UK. I see people getting free tickets all the time for vacations and idle garbage like such.
Here my beautiful girl is laying there thinking I’ll never show. Its $817 bucks by Virgin Atlantic and I don’t have that money when everything is in bills! To whom it may concern. My grandmother is in the hospital and on her death bed she has a bad heart her vowl to her heart is leaking and no blood is pumping to it mayjor part of this is half her heart is beating and the doctos cant do anything if they do she wont wake up i need to get to her asap i love her and im the only family member not there and i want to be plz help me get from bridgeport to dallas tx to be with my grandmother and family plz help me.

i am a us cityzen,immigrant from sierra leone west africa(blood daimond land).am 27.nine months ago i went back and marry my high school sweetheart,come back and file for her and now i am waiting for her filling to be completed and sent to me.any way before i left sierra leone my wife was pregnant.she was surpose to be due coming december 09.she lost the baby and i have been sending her some money but i guess she cant cope and here in am streesfull that i cant work over time to get there before the due date or the aniversery jan 10.please borrow at least my airfare to go .give me a try and help me out.thans in advance.john hallowell.

There is a program called Angel Flights that will take family members sometimes to be with a loved you that is in critical condition. It is volunteer pilots who volunteer there time and planes. I am a 55 year old grandmother raising 4 grandchildren on my own. my son recently had a life threatening dirt bike accident in colorado. He is better he is at the Craig Hospital right now. Here is my problem he has his own business and his wife’s family all live in New Zealand. He is going to need help in running his business when he is released from Craig. He has no movement in his right arm (yet) and still has a brain injury and no short term memory. We have no idea (it’s up to God) at this point if he will regain use of his arm or if his braini will ever be the same. I have to work and the only time I can go out to help him with his business is Friday afternoon through Monday mornings. I have spend all my little savings on flights when he was first injured and still in very critical condition. I am not asking for free but if someone has any (I forget what they are called) flying miles frequent flyer miles etc that I could purchase very cheap please e-mail me and God Bless you and thanks.

Hi, I m working all my life in a private firm as a assistant production incharge in corrugated carton company. I really wish someone could help me and my 3years old daughter to go back home in texas,I spend all my savings give a birth here in TSR ,they all love me when I have money but when I spended all they all dislike me and my baby,no one ever help me to take care my baby I cannot even get a job here because no one wants to take care of her,I was ill for over a month and no one ever help me I take care my baby even thou I was ill I did it all the work that has to be done,my mother past away December 2008 the following month my sister past away,all I can do is to call and tell lies that I was sick thats why I cannot make it home,they all know that I always have money (savings) I made some calls when I found out that my sis and mom died and my bf threw the phone in the walls,I truly cannot take it anymore I don’t know who to ask for help,we are stuck here doing nothing,this is winter again and my daughter do not have the right clothes to wear nor shoes,yes they have a place right where you can buy used clothes but I don’t have money not even a cent.I am truly afraid scared if something bad happens with me here because I know for sure no one ever wants to take care my daughter,I never ever meet anyone like this family in my whole life ever,they are all very cold in heart no symphaty whatsoever and this is their first grand baby,my bf is really abusive he use to choked me and kick my stomach when I was pregnant because he find out that I pay a visit to the abortion but I was scared to do that procedure so here we are we are stuck in this country no friends no family.I past out several times alone of course and they know that I was ill and no one ever came around to help me to take care my baby….right now my bf he seemed change a little because he stop hurting me I told him if he don’t stop hurting me we will run away for good but is not going to happen because I don’t have the money to run away…and I don’t know anyone to ask for help…please help me and my baby to get back home in texas I would really really apreciate if someone out there to help us….I don’t want these people to hurt me or my baby again so please I am reaching out for help. thank you..

Hey i found this site just looking up tips on how to get cheap tickets for my daughter who is one and for myself. My husband is getting deployed early Nov early Dec to Afghanistan. We would love to come home for Christmas considering we are living in Baumholder, Germany and have’nt seen the family in a while and how cool would it bet to try to get a free ticket i guess it couldnt hurt……………thanks good luck to me

I desperately need to go to to see my gurlfriend. she stay in quiapo manila ,philippines. we been seen each other online for 7 months. I need a round trip plane ticket, im tring to save all my money to see her…but i hav so many bill,cant sav that much,i in love with this woman.i know god have out us togther. any help would be beyond grateful for us.

Staying in turkey during my holidays represent a lot of expenses for me and the truth is am having a hard time so it would be much more easier to return home until the begining of the semester. I hope to hear soon from you.

Myself and my husband and our 13 yr old granddaughter that we have custody of is trying to get back to our daughter and her little family when she has her third baby. We live in WA state and she and her family live in Indiana. My hubby suffered a stroke back in November of 2008 and I suffered with and am a survivor of Breast Cancer DX in Feb of 2009. We miss our daughter and her little family very much and would be ever so thankful if we could get free tickets or very cheap tickets to get back there to help out when she gives birth to her third child. She gave birth to her first son 2 months early in Seattle WA, her little boy that will be 1 on the 25th of this month was born two weeks early…….please help us. thanks

im backpacking in Australia for 21 month now and here comes the time for me to go back home to see my family ,my sister’s got a new boyfriend, my parents a new house and my friends got married and have children now, everything went so fast. I’d like to be home for my parents 35 wedding anniversary in november.

Everyone obviously wants to travel for free, please add me to the list!!! Free airline tix! You bet! I am ready to travel, and would love to get that first class. Nothing like sitting in first class in a comfy, squishy leather seat with non stop cocktails and champagne! Bring it on! Love that. I will be at the ticket counter early and planning for all my next flights! Yup. I actually gave away some tix that I got in a gift bag from Jet Blu one year. It was just after Katrina and a lady wanted them to go back there and visit.

had a stroke back in sept 2009, want to go to las vegas, just cant afford the air fare, the stroke has not affected me pysicaly but has just left me tired all the time and i cant work so im not earning, im nearly 60 and want to take my lady friend to vegas as a thankyou

I know that a few people have mentioned this before (in between all the beggars) but this article is a guide for how to qualify for free plane tickets. Nowhere in the article does it say anything about giving away tickets.
Now, to all of the beggars. Get a life! The reason your life sucks so much is because you go around begging for freebies. Stop thinking that the world owes you something. You want free tickets for flights around the world? GO TO WORK, make some money, buy tickets, and THEN do what the article suggests. So to the “poor girl who wants to travel the world” and all the other lazy people, get a job and work like the rest of us.
Now I know a few people live in places where that’s easier said than done but you know what? McDonald’s is hiring. And if it’s not, then you DON’T GET TO TRAVEL. That’s how the world works.
Oh, but you didn’t even read the article? You’re so pathetic that you think someone is going to give you free airplane tickets even though you didn’t even take one minute to read the article. The same reason that you won’t be getting free tickets is the same reason that you need them in the first place: You can’t even be bothered to think, work, do something about your situation. Instead you Google “Free Airline Tickets” then find an article that shows you a great way to get them but you skip the article, finding it easier to beg. Truly pathetic.
I find it even more laughable when people add the “god bless” as if that’s going to help. LMAO at you, especially you.
To the editors of this magazine, do you really want to continue posting these lame stories from people who read part of the article, or worse, skipped and just started begging??

Well you can get free airline tickets, especially if you live in the USA. I have a travel website where you can claim free tickets with Southwest, AA and Jetblue. These arent all year round so it pays to keep an eye out and check back regularly. You can also claim holidays (in Europe- applies worldwide) cruises, and iphones, ipads, cameras.

These comments were honestly the saddest thing I have ever seen. The guy who says ‘stop begging’ is right, but I do feel some compassion for these people – I don’t even know if it’s stupidity or naivity or some weird kind of educational gap….I am just shocked, that a little article like that could bring about these kinds of responses. It shows, I think, a total inability to understand how the world works. Too much reality tv? Shows you how easy it would be to rip people off – offer them something for nothing – get them excited, then say you just need an ‘application fee’ of $50…etc

Wow…. These people sounds so desperate and pathetic…free airline tickets… And I guess Air Canada and American Airlines are some sort of new versions of santa claus!! These companies are in a so heavy load of problems because of the recession that they Will drown and die before giving away tickets! If you don’t have a job, go at mcdonald’s or at wendy’s to flip some patties and budget what you earn!! 40 h/week at 9$ an hour and if don’t drink your pay because of sadness, you should be able to afford a ticket in 2-3 months. But seriously, I snowboard around the world and I work to pay my plane tickets…and I am not trying to get some free lift tickets!! You want to travel: work and spend your hard-earned cash, that’s the way it is lazy folks!!

Don’t worry, I am not asking for a free ticket…per se. I know that if you do accept the airline voucher it is good for one year and transferable. I live in New Orleans as a grad school student in seminary. My fiance is lives in South Carolina finishing up her undergrad. No, neither one is ill or anything like that; I just miss her. The distance has been difficult. We see eachother about every three months which sounds pretty frequent…but not if you’re engaged. Planning the wedding separately has been tough. I have $100 or so saved (A flight is roughly $300). If anyone would like to transfer some of their voucher money or miles because they are close to expiration I would greatly appreciate it. Anything helps. People say this all the time but I mean it: I would make it up to you somehow. If not, I understand. Thanks for your valuable time in reading this.

Some of these people may be a little ignorant asking for tickets, but i wouldn’t call them dumb, or stupid. I would have to say they are more like humans who are just hoping on a dream. All those who think otherwise either have never seen hard times, or don’t believe they will ever have too.
Here’s something to help those looking for tickets
1. find thrown out items like signs, electronics, etc that can be refurbished (fixed) and sell them online or at pawn shops. Don’t let them hustle you either research what you find out you may be surprised.
2. If at all possible do yard work (if your in an area where people care about lawns or even have them)
3.Work hard to develop a talent of yours as soon as possible, this may take a little longer than you want but hey…eventually if you want it enough you will find your self on that plane.
Just don’t do anything illegal to get the funds because 1 your brining on bad vibes (in some cases) and 2 the amount of $$ you have to pay in bail money will out way your desired plane ticket.

i think the man who said statement left out that you also have to work your tail off, but in those days maybe that was just assumed?
And what ever you do make sure you hold onto that pride of yours, it’s important.

Come on you people are begging to get airline tickets from who????? i dont see a sign that says “free ticket here”. if you want to fly save the money, for goodness sake get a job like the rest of people out there. think where do i want to be in the future. don’t work to survive but rather work to live a life. you always have to start from the bottom to reach the top, there is no escalator that picks people up and makes them rich. remember no one in the world was born better then the next. I grew in a poor family and mum would save little amount of money till she had couple of thousands of dollars and bought a failing shop and turned it to her success and now she owns houses, shops and businesses and i look up to her every day at how she accomplished it. it took her 20 yrs to save the $15,000 that she bought the first shop with. Please have some self respect and don’t beg, when you beg you lose hope for your self and you will be stuck in poverty and misery. day and night think how will i succeed , how will i make my mark and how can become the richest man a life. Never lose hope.

My husband travels a lot internationally and he’s gotten vouchers for return trips because he volunteers to give up his seats especially during peak travel seasons, So I validate what this article says to be true.
Just some advice to some who didnt really read the article, is that these airlines work hard to make money and although its hard to acquire the means to get flight tickets it can happen if you work hard and save a little at a time and I love how someone offered solutions in ways to accomplish that. Use those talents and dont lose focus of your dreams. My husband came to the U.S with almost nothing except for a change of clothes in his small suitcase, but he had determination he’s going to make it in this land of opportunity, and opportunity means you have to seek it it will not come to you. His father had to mortgage his house in his native country just so his son could come here to have a better future and the son didnt forget that sacrifice. And to some please lets not judge too harshly, and take a lesson from Thumper..”If you have nothing nice to say, don’t say anything at all.”
