10 Reasons to Watch Rescue Me

10 Reasons to Watch Rescue Me

I will start with my blatant bias: Rescue Me is one of the best shows on TV. If you weren’t one of the fortunate ones like me to have been watching Rescue Me since the first season, what are you waiting for? It’s one of the best shows on TV.

  1. The drama. You get attached to these characters, and then they die, get hospitalized, get hurt in some way, and you feel for them. The show is very unpredictable and that’s how we want it.
  2. The comedy. This is one funny show!
  3. The reality of guys being guys. There’s a great mix of simple, not particularly bright characters, and others who are more complex.
  4. The witty dialogue. Listen to these guys talk! The writers have captured reality so beautifully! When Franco talks about how he’s young and hot and loves to pick-up women, you believe it. When the firehouse has sensitivity training classes and they talk about all the open racism and their diverse backgrounds, you believe it. There are many real life arguments, and you believe them because they’re so well done.
  5. It’s Denis Leary at his best. Even if you don’t like Denis Leary, you have to admit that his acting, character, and entire role in the show is outstanding. (To be fair, his role as Tommy Gavin being the king of picking up women may be getting a little tired, but it’s still believeable – chicks dig firemen!).
  6. Outstanding cast. The cast members are a group of amazing actors. They are all very believable.
  7. They have the guts to reveal the truth about 9-11. This is the first show that I’m aware of that has blatantly, professionally, and perfectly questioned the “official story” of what happened on 9-11. It’s the most important and relevant setting possible and it’s been incredibly well handled.
  8. The sex. It’s hot.
  9. The hot babes. Lots of them. Oh, and see #8.
  10. The risky reminders. There are just enough fire incidents to remind you that these guys risk it all every time there’s a fire.

From season to season, the Rescue Me stories go from great to even greater. Season 5 is even better than seasons 3 and 4, and that’s saying a LOT. Buy the Rescue Me DVD and watch it. You’ll thank yourself later.
