On May 30th 2016, Houston Avenue Bar & Grill opened their newest Downtown Montreal location on 2042 Peel Street, corner of de Maisonneuve. A couple of weeks later, this new location in the city’s notable Golden Square Mile, had a special event for the media to showcase the changes they made to the chain’s brand and cuisine.
Chef Mercuri’s Private Presentation of the Menu
After some double-cheek kisses, schmoozing and a delicious sampling of J.P. Chenet’s newest summer iced-wine, we were invited for a special presentation and tasting from the Executive Chef Joe Mercuri.
…a fusion of flavours excited my palette and each dish had an interesting twist…
Chef Mercuri completely transformed the cuisine that we once associated with the chain of restaurants, into a spunky and sophisticated menu for all of the Houston restaurants across Quebec and Ontario. After the Chef explained each dish the room stayed quiet while we savored each bite.
In all honesty, I was expecting a very classic steak house and family-style cooking, and my expectations were exceeded. Instead, a fusion of flavours excited my palette and each dish had an interesting twist. They also kept all of the major crowd pleasers that you crave when you go to a steakhouse such as tartares, ribs, burgers and steaks.
Even though the restaurant has two floors and over 250 seats, the decor felt warm, inviting and even had a sexy flare. I could definitely see myself heading over to Houston’s for an after work cocktail, or even going there on a dinner date, which really pleasantly surprised me! This downtown location highlights how much their restaurants have been reinvented, the food and the atmosphere feels so fresh and fun.
Should you go?
Yes. If you’re going out with a large party (e.g., a group of friends or an office-related event), or going on a date, this is a crowd pleasing option.
