Montreal Comiccon 2025: Jean Grey, The Boys, and Boldly Going Into Con Season

I don’t know how else to say this but I’m super excited for this year’s Montreal Comiccon!

Every July, the Palais des congrès transforms into a portal where pop culture takes over and reality steps aside. And 2025 is shaping up to be among the best years yet. And I don’t mean this as hyperbole!

The X-men!

Let’s just start with Famke Janssen. Yes, Jean Grey herself. Phoenix. The woman who brought serious gravitas to the X-Men films and who (let’s be honest) stole the show in GoldenEye, Taken, Hemlock Grove, and more. She’s Guest of Honour this year, and seeing her in person is the kind of thing that makes longtime comic and movie fans revert to full-on fan mode.

The Boys!

If that weren’t enough, one of the best TV shows ever, The Boys, are crashing the party. Laz Alonso (Mother’s Milk) and Tomer Capone (Frenchie) will be there to represent one of the wildest, most talked-about shows of the last decade. If you’re into gritty superhero satire, chaos, and a bit of off-the-rails storytelling genius, this is your moment. These two bring so much heart to a show full of mayhem, and now you can hear what they have to say in person.

On The More Personal Side…

Now, let me switch gears for a minute and tell you something personal. During those long, dragged-out unnecessary COVID lockdowns, I rediscovered the show Greek. And I fell in love with it, again. I watched the full series for the second time, from start to finish. It honestly helped me get through some of the toughest mental stretches of that era. Which is why I’m especially excited to see that Spencer Grammer, aka Summer Smith from Rick and Morty and Casey Cartwright from Greek will be there. That show deserves more credit than it gets, and Spencer was at the heart of it.

Star Wars & Star Trek: Legends Collide

This year, Montreal Comiccon is delivering two galaxies’ worth of icons.

From the Star Wars universe, we’re getting not just one, but two unforgettable performers. First, Ian McDiarmid, the one and only Emperor Palpatine. He’s the ultimate Sith Lord from the prequels, originals, and sequels. Next, Andy Serkis, a master of transformation, known for his role as Snoke in the sequel trilogy and more recently as Kino Loy in Andor, one of the best arcs in Star Wars TV history.

On the Star Trek side, it’s a stellar lineup:

  • William Shatner, forever Captain James T. Kirk.
  • Brent Spiner, Data from The Next Generation.
  • Wil Wheaton, aka Wesley Crusher.

And surprise… Famke Janssen also has Star Trek cred. She appeared in one of the most memorable episodes of The Next Generation, “The Perfect Mate,” as Kamala, an empathic metamorph who imprinted on Captain Picard. It was the “hot girl” episode of the season, and fans still talk about it.

This double fandom crossover is what Comiccon dreams are made of.

But that’s just the tip of the cosplay iceberg.

Lord of the Rings and Beyond!

We’re also getting Elijah Wood, Sean Astin, Billy Boyd, and Andy Serkis. Yes, the hobbits and golem are assembling. Natalia Tena from Game of Thrones. Plus Mike Colter, Theo Rossi, Michael Jai White, Rose McGowan, the voice of Mario Charles Martinet, WWE legends, anime voice talent, horror icons, and dozens of creators in Artist Alley. From Nick Bradshaw and and comic legend Jim Starlin to Dan Parent and Ghoulish Gary Pullin.

This is more than a convention. For me, it’s a place to reconnect with the shows, comics, games, and actors who helped shape different chapters of my life. It’s like a summer reset button, and this year’s lineup hits all the right notes.

So yeah, I’ll be there! Will you?

Visit Montreal Comiccon’s website for tickets, schedules, and the full guest list. Let the countdown begin.
