Every once in a while, we like to feature an up-and-comer as opposed to a very experienced model or super model. This month we’ve got a hot-ticket babe who’s working her way up bigtime in the world of modeling, not to mention being a volleyball superstar who played for the U.S. National Team. Mara Martin has a great combo of brains and beauty. Aside from a being college volleyball star, she’s been on Good Morning America, worked with Maxim, modeled for Roxy Swimwear and a bunch of other brand name gigs that are getting her a lot of attention. Where are you from/live now? 
I am from Monroe, Michigan but recently just moved to Miami Beach, Florida to model.
What’s your family background?
My family is mostly Irish believe it or not!!! (I don’t know why I’m so tan and have light eyes…..)
When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Of course, I wanted to be a princess and ballerina like most little girls, but I do remember at a young age wishing that I were taller when I grew up!! And look what happened (I’m 5’11). If I would have known my wish would have come true I would have dreamt for a larger cup size ;).
How did you get into modeling?
I was “discovered” on vacation and a scout came up to me and told me I should test with the agency. So after I graduated college I decided what the heck and gave a try!!
What has been your best modeling gig so far?
I’m pretty new to the modeling industry but I am realizing each job is the best in its own way. So I couldn’t name one! Shooting for Roxy Swimwear was pretty awesome.
Something must stand out.
Seeing a big life sized poster of yourself in the store was crazy!!! Walking the red carpet for Maxim Super Bowl was fun. And any magazine I have ever been in is so cool because my family can see me everyday by just going and getting a copy!!!
Most interesting TV appearances?
I don’t do a lot of TV but one memorable appearance was being on the “Good Morning America” show modeling Oscar dress trends. Joan Rivers was commenting on the dresses. I remember her sarcastically calling us all fat and ugly…. The nerve 🙂
How far did you get with your volleyball “career”?
Volleyball was a great experience for me. I received a full scholarship to the University of Michigan. I also played a summer on the U.S. Select National team where we toured with Argentina playing each other for big crowds!! Although I did not pursue it, playing professionally overseas could have been an option after graduating college, before modeling fell into my lap 😉
Aside from volleyball, are you into sports?
My favorite show is Sportscenter. I love watching all sports especially college football!!
What has been the hardest part about being both university educated and a sexy babe?
I think that it makes me a well rounded person but there is a stigma for sure. People assume I’m not educated when I tell them my job and are always surprised to hear I’m modeling when they find out I have a college degree!!
Give us a fun fact about you.
Can we change the question to fun facts.. Plural?? I have a 37 inch inseam… I’m all legs!! My favorite food is maple syrup. I put it on everything. I have a 2 year old boxer dog, Gus, who I consider my son. LOL! Oh and I can teach you how to Dougie. Just to name a few!!!
Any special or unusual talents?
I can unwrap a starburst by using my tongue only. (try it… I bet you can’t do it).
Any musical talent?
I am a pianist… Have been playing for 15+ years.
According to you, what’s your sexiest body part?
I don’t really find myself all that sexy to be honest. So maybe my Busty chest??? Haha [Editor’s note: Mara has a great sense of humor!]
What do men think is your sexiest body part?
They usually all love my legs and stomach. And a lot of men comment on how alluring my green eyes are.
Best or worst pick-up line used on you?
I have had many pick up lines said to me. So a funny one had to be “I’m a hockey player and have a really hard stick”. As much as I love hockey some of the players can be so silly.
What do you think about pick-up lines?
In general, most girls think pick up lines are cheesy and dumb which I would attest to. But even so at least it sparks up some type of conversation. So I don’t mind them usually. 🙂
Tell us at least one thing every man should know about women.
I think every man should know a women’s lingerie size and favorite drink.
Do women get catty around you?
They might be catty, I don’t really notice it if they are. I have been told that I am naive when it comes to things like this.
How long can you stay away from your cell phone without going crazy?
Not long!! I have too many friends and family that I hear from daily!!! I’m lost without it.
Favorite place to vacation?
My favorite place to vacation is back home so I can be around my two nephews Zack and Weston. But my favorite vacation was Atlantis in the Bahamas. Hands down the best place ever!
What’s the most common question that people ask you?
I get a lot of these three questions: “Are you a model!??” “How tall are you??” “Is that your real eye color?”

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
I either hope to be still working hard at this job, booking big jobs and becoming even more successful. Or possibly having a boyfriend/husband and starting a family. Maybe even both!! Either would be equally rewarding 🙂
