Actress April Scott

Actress April Scott

Model, actor, and director April Scott. She can currently be found on NBC’s Deal or No Deal. April is on Maxim Magazine’s 2006 Top 100 list, she’s won almost a hundred beauty pageants, and been featured on CSI Miami and The Shield, not to mention being a Dreamgirl Lingerie model (wow!). She’s not just a talent, she’s uber-talented in so many ways!

Citynet Magazine: Where are you from/live now?

April Scott: I’m originally from a small town of 2000 people in southeast Missouri, but now I live in Beverly Hills, CA.april-scott-2

Tell us about April Scott: The early years.

I grew up on a 20-acre farm in rural Missouri. It was pretty isolated. We only had three TV channels and no neighbors. So, I spent most of my time growing up by myself, reading or watching movies, or roaming around outside. In the summers I played softball in the town little league, but that was about it.

How did boys react to you in high school?

I’d say the girls teased me more than the boys. The boys never bothered me. But, I will say, that I never fit in in high school and I couldn’t wait to graduate and move away.

How did you get into modeling?

By chance. After graduating from college with a degree in theater, I moved to Los Angeles to pursue acting, and an agent came up to me and suggested I try modeling as well. I had no idea that it would become my full time profession. Right away I started booking jobs and so I guess it came pretty easy for me.

You’ve won 85 beauty pageant crowns – that’s quite the accomplishment! Which is your most cherished?

Oh boy, that’s a tough one… Would it be Miss Soybean or Miss Sweet Pea….or Miss Sunflower? Those were real titles by the way. No, I would have to say that winning my hometown pageant, Miss Missouri Peach Queen was my most cherished one, because there were lots of family and friends supporting me in the audience. I know it sounds cheesy, but at the time it was a big deal. But, then again, I was sixteen.

You’ve been featured in dozens of promotions but is there one that has stood out?

I really liked my photos for my Maxim spread back in December. I shot with an amazing photographer from New York, Antoine Verglas, on the beach in Malibu. Everything that I wore was white and I hardly wore any makeup at all. It was really clean and natural.

Most notable TV experiences?

The most notable would have to be when I guest starred on the season premier of CSI MIAMI. I played a model who got wrapped up with the wrong guy and was murdered by his brother. I was run over by a yellow Lamborghini. That’s not something that happens everyday:)

What celeb has been the best to work with so far?

I would have to say that I had the most fun working with the guys of Motley Crue when I shot their video, “If I Die Tomorrow.” Vince, Tommy, Nikki, and Mick, they were all really cool and I was a big fan of their’s since Dr. Feelgood. The video was pretty challenging too, because I was the only one in it besides the band. I also had to do a stunt wearing a harness, where they raised me off the ground to look like I was flying after Nikki Six. I used to listen to all the hairbands. Who am I kidding, I still do. I have Whitesnake in my car right now. I still don’t think there’s anything better than a heavy metal ballad.

What has been the best experience in your job?

Meeting interesting people.

What has been the worst experience?

Meeting creepy people.

Have people recognized you on the street based on your celebrity status?

I was in Vegas two weeks ago and people kept recognizing me from the show “Deal or No Deal” that I’m currently on. People kept looking up from their tables as I was walking by and calling out my name. It was pretty surprising, but I guess a lot of people watch. The show has had the highest ratings on NBC since “Friends.”

Has anyone ever run up to you in the street and brought you flowers?

No, but I do have a guy that emails my website everyday with poems that he writes for me. Funny thing is they’re in Spanish. I don’t have the heart to tell him that I don’t read Spanish…

What’s the most common question that people ask you?

What my nationality is. They can’t quite seem to figure it out. I’m French, Native American, and Spanish, by the way.

Pet Peeves?

Getting pulled over by the cops for my tinted windows.

Name anyone, alive or dead, who you would love to meet.

Stanley Kubrick, he’s one of my favorite directors. Or Jesus. Yes, Jesus would be a close second. Then Shakespeare. Then maybe Socrates or Plato.

What do you want the world to know about you?

Nothing. I’d prefer to remain a mystery…Next question?

What’s the greatest risk you have ever taken?

Moving to Los Angeles by myself. I had no money, didn’t know anyone here, and had never been to California before. I just decided to come, did mapquest and drove out. Funny thing is the mapquest directions stopped about an hour and a half outside of LA in West Covina, CA, and not a particularly safe area, I might add. But, I was like, “I’m here!” and so I exited the freeway. It was getting dark, so I started looking for a hotel. I went into a restaurant and asked the woman at the counter and she shook her head and said, “Oh no honey, you can’t get a hotel around here. It’s too dangerous. You better just get back in your car and keep driving.”

That was an interesting experience to say the least. Two days later, I ended up moving into the first apartment I looked at because it was the cheapest I could find. It was a studio located on a charming cul-de-sac in downtown LA, behind the LA Convention Center and after a week, I realized that it was a crackhouse, with no hot water, with a prostitute living upstairs (but at least she was friendly). I finally ventured further into LA and discovered the westside, West Hollywood, Beverly Hills, and Santa Monica and figured out that I had made a poor apartment selection and so I ending up fleeing the place in the middle of the night. And I haven’t looked back since.

What’s your favorite body part (on you and on a guy)?

On me? I’d say my back…and on a guy? I’d say strong arms and chest:)

If you were a fruit, what would you be?

Wait a minute…have I warped back into beauty pageant land again? Ok…Fruit…ahem… “If I were a fruit, I would be an extremely poisonous berry, so hopefully no one would eat me, because that would be painful. But, if they did eat me at least they would die.”

Favorite character on Family Guy?

Brian of course! Stewie is a close second, then Peter, then Lois, then the brother, what’s his name? Oh yeah, Chris. And lastly Meg. I find her annoying.

Favorite upcoming projects?

Like I said earlier, I’m currently working on the show, “Deal or No Deal,” but I’m also in preproduction of a movie that I wrote and plan on directing later this year. It’s a dark comedy called, “UP” and, although I have directed theater before, this will be my first attempt at film directing. So, I am very excited.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Doing more films and tv work. And directing and writing my own projects.
