Open mic stand-up comedy is possibly one of the most entertaining type of events you can attend. There are few things as authentic as watching someone get up on stage in front of a crowd of strangers to try and make them laugh. Actually forget authentic, it’s downright insane.
Headliners vs. Open Mic
Luckily, you don’t have to perform at open mic. Rather, you have the incredible opportunity to sit back, relax, and watch someone sweat for five minutes while they do their best to pretend that they don’t care what you think. You get to hear jokes you’ve never heard before (and some that will never be heard again). You get the satisfaction of knowing that your laughter is making someone’s night.
What makes open mic even better is that each performer only has about 5 minutes. Whether the comedian is side-splitting hilarious or laughably terrible you can rest easy in the fact that they will be gone and you might never see them again. It’s like watching American Idol auditions live. It’s just… it’s just so freaking awesome.
Best Way to Spend a Buck
All this for $5! That should blow your mind. For five dollars and a tall glass of beer you can end up having one of the best nights ever laughing so hard you’ll worry about wetting yourself. I’ve regretted seeing movies that were just horrible. I’ve regretted seeing long, boring plays. But I’ve never regretted going to an open mic because they have always been interesting.
Comedians to Check Out
Ok, so you’re thinking about going but you want to make sure you see the good open mic performers. Well, here you go. Here are five people you definitely want to see the next time they’re up.
