The Best Easy Halloween Costume Ideas

If you need easy adult Halloween costume concepts, then you’ve come to the right place. You can grab some inspiration for your Halloween costume from the innovative ideas listed below.

A Little History

Halloween has its roots in the Celtic tradition of Samhain and the Christian holiday called the “Solemnity of All Saints” which many refer to as “All Hallows” or “Hallowmas”. It was mainly a harvest festival. When Irish immigrants came to North America during the Great Famine in the 1840s, they brought the tradition with them. From this tradition grew the North American custom of wearing Halloween costumes which of course has evolved into a major affair. Trick or treating came much later. Now that you’ve had a little schooling on the origins of Halloween, here’s the important stuff: Costumes!

What Makes The Best Costumes?

I believe that the best Halloween costume ideas have several key features. First, they give you a lot of mobility. If you plan on going to an apartment party or clubbing in your outfit, you want to make sure it’s easy to move. You also don’t want to cover your head completely if you can avoid it because if you’re single, you won’t be able to drink and hook up with any hotties you meet at the party (duh! LOL!).

Great Halloween costumes can be elaborate but they don’t have to be. As you’ll see from the list below, sometimes simple costumes where you have to ask people to guess who or what you are can lead to a lot more fun. Finally, I would say that originality is a great point. Part of dressing up is to get that “wow” factor (as in, wow, that’s funny/original/sexy/etc!).

To go the extra mile, dress up as a recognizable person or thing and then add a special touch to it. For example, if you want to dress up like Stewie Griffin (see below), consider dressing up as the little guy when he was dressed as a cheerleader in one of the episodes of Family Guy. So, you’re not just Stewie, you’re Stewie as a Cheerleader. Similarly, you could be Kenny from South Park after he has died.

Creative Costumes

Domino
Dressing up like a domino has got to be one of the easiest, most brilliant costume ideas ever. All you have to do is cut some perfect circles out of paper or cardboard, wear all black, and safety pin them to your chest, stomach and leg. For added durability, cover the circles in plastic lamination (like that stuff you had to put on books back in grade school). This costume will give you mobility, it will keep people guessing (everyone will think you’re a die and will guess dice before they guess domino which is quite funny) , it’s cheap to make and won’t take more than an hour, and best of all you can take it off at any time during the night and store it in your drawer for next year’s Halloween. Even if you’re looking for plus-size Halloween costumes, this is a great idea.

Highway
You want originality? Dress up as a highway. Wear all black, put tape (white or yellow masking tape) down part of your body, sew some toy cars and trucks to your shirt, and attach a speed limit sign (or better yet, a sign that says “This portion of the highway has been dedicated by blank”).

For Groups of Women: Robert Palmer Simply Irresistible Video Girls
Slick your hair back, put on a tight dress and wear a guitar. Original and hot!

Wigged-out!
Go to any wig or party store and buy a funky wig. It can be extra long blond hair, a giant afro, Princess Leia style, or any other wacky type of wig that doesn’t belong on your head! That alone can make your costume and few people will say “hey you didn’t dress up…”.

Pimp n Ho
This is the best Halloween costume for couples. The guy can wear lots of bling, a long coat with some fur, a big obnoxious hat and some sort of fancy cane. The girl should put on a short, tight mini-skirt, high boots or very high heel shoes, a sexy, revealing top, and possibly lots of make-up. This idea isn’t that original but it’s hot and fun!

iPhone
Dressing up as the popular iPhone will certain turn a lot of heads! Cut your costume out of Styrofoam, and add a few “applications” with a dark marker.

Kenny from South Park
Wear a tight hood all night.

Stewie Griffin
Who doesn’t love this hilarious baby from The Family Guy? If you want to get a lot of laughs, this is a great costume idea. His clothes are easy enough to replicate. The only part that may prove difficult is his football-shaped head. You may be able to buy a face mask at a local Halloween store or make some skin-color cones to stick out of the sides of your head with paper.

Jillian Michaels
This is one hot Biggest Loser celebrity and she’s easy to impersonate – if you are in top-shape.

Bumble Bee
To become a bumblebee, wear a black and yellow stripped shirt, some yellow shorts with black tights, a skirt in those colors, or just about any combination of black and yellow. You’ll need a head piece for antennae and small wings. This is obviously more of a costume for women. If you’re a guy, you could also buy a Bumblebee Transformer helmet/mask but that will probably get annoying, especially as you try to chug beers when you’re out partying. Not to mention that you’ll get hot ans sweaty under that mask.

Ladybug
Ladybugs are cute, cuddly, and entirely simple to piece together. Put on a red shirt and place some black dots on your back. Maybe suff a small pillow into the back of your shirt. Add a few accessories to your face and head and you’re all set.

Cat
The ever popular cat costume can become a bit cleverer when you add some interesting stripes. Keep in mind that cats come in all colors, so don’t be afraid to experiment! Your cat costume can even have fluorescent stripes if you really want to stand out.

Flat Screen TV or Computer Monitor
Whether you’re a 720 p or 1080i, dressing up like a television is unique and interesting. Cut out a cardboard box, stick on image on the front and consider handing people a remote control. This costume is a little more boxy and cumbersome, and you may not be able to sit all night, but it might be worthwhile.

Cup of Coffee
Who doesn’t like a hot cup ‘o joe? There are a million things that can be turned into a coffee costume – find some creative materials for this one.

Henry the VIII
If you love The Tudors, then pulling off this regal look will be lots of fun. Head to your nearest Halloween shop for a great Henry VIII costume. While you’re at it, see if you can wrestle up an Anne Boleyn costume for your favorite gal.
