Is AI coming for the voices of Rick and Morty?
At Montreal Comiccon 2025, Rick and Morty voice actors Ian Cardoni and Harry Belden discussed AI-generated voices and the importance of keeping human performers involved in animation. Cardoni pointed to the show’s public recasting as a meaningful example. The production could have gone in many directions, but it chose human actors to continue these iconic roles. He said that choice reflects the value of human creativity. Belden agreed, saying Rick and Morty may be filled with aliens, alternate realities, and multiverse chaos, but it’s still built around human stories. The actors also talked about the show’s future, confirming that Rick and Morty is now expected to continue through season 12. With infinite realities to explore, they said there are still plenty of stories ahead.
