Stephanie Young on AI, Voice Acting, and Why Human Performance Still Matters

At Montreal Comiccon 2025, we got an exclusive interview with voice actor and musician Stephanie Young who talks about artificial intelligence and what it means for artists, actors, musicians, and voice performers. AI is already raising serious questions about ownership, voice rights, and what happens when technology can imitate or reproduce a performer’s voice.

Stephanie was direct about the concern, saying, “Of course, no one wants that to happen,” while explaining that creatives are doing everything they can to protect their voice, their property, and their art.

She also spoke about why the human side of performance still matters. Whether it’s live music at the Montreal Jazz Festival or the global fan community built around One Piece, where she voices Nico Robin, Stephanie sees real connection as something technology can’t fully recreate. For her, art brings people together, helps them through difficult moments, and creates communities that are uplifting, hopeful, and deeply human.
