The sheer number of festivals that we’ve pigged out at this summer is clear proof that Montreal is a hub of foodie events. From hot new Nutella recipes premiering at the Balloon Festival to Yul Eat, this city has a lot going on. Fortunately, during almost every weekend of this past summer the weather has been hot and sunny. I’ve attended more food festivals this summer than I can remember, partially due to that fact.
Now it’s time to end the summer season with one final food festival. It’s the West Island Barbecue Bonanza! It’s being called an “upscale outdoor grilling festival” and from the looks of it, it’s going to be a lot of fun!
What to Expect
It’s a grilled food festival but it’s not just for meat lovers! Expect:
- Family-friendly entertainment
- Grilled and smoked: Fish, cheese, and vegetables
- Cooking demonstrations
- Examples of food preparation techniques from over 16 countries
- 20 restaurants
- Bloody Caesar Bar
- Vodka Bar
- Beer Bar
- Wine Bar
- Juice Bar
- Coffee Bar
The event’s organizer is Larry Day. He’s known for bringing us Strangers in the Night and Lobster Clam Jam to Montrealers. In an email exchange with Larry, I was given some further details about the BBQ Bonanza. I asked what the inspiration was behind the event?
The idea actually was the brainchild of Partners Billy Alfonso and Fabio Broccoli. They are the creators of the hugely popular Lobster Clam Jam. They teamed up with Larry Day, a film and TV actor who is also the Founder of the Strangers In The Night Gourmet Gala.
Together they envisioned a totally different event bringing together over a dozen different restaurants, all preparing BBQ plates of food. A veritable “United Nations “ of BBQ featuring restaurants from different regions of the world preparing BBQ cuisine as is done in their home countries.
That is basically what BBQ Bonanza is all about. People enjoying BBQ food dishes from all over world in one place as well as enjoying great desserts, a dedicated children’s area and live music from some great local talent, Jesse Jack with special guests, Santana Tribute Specialists Persuasion.
One of the most important parts of the event according to the organizers is that a portion of the funds raised will be going to The Starlight Children’s Foundation Canada to help sick children in hospital all over Quebec.
The West Island Barbecue Bonanza takes place Sunday, September 20th, 2015 at the West Island Lamborghini dealership.
