Nicky D’s Wood-Fired Pizza

Nicky D’s Wood-Fired Pizza

It takes a certain community to have a local restaurant with a niche that people from all over can appreciate. In Silverlake and surrounding areas Nicky D’s is an authentic wood-oven New York Style pizza restaurant. Nicky D’s has wonderful dinner entrees, with a creative presentation. The brick oven pizza selections are fabulous and there is plenty of variety to choose from.

Although unique when Nick started his restaurant, today many pizza parlors are grasping this new and hip, world-view pizza philosophy. For many pizza gurus out there, wood-fired oven joints are becoming the next trend. Here at Nicky D’s you will experience a wonderful homemade sauce and a nice crispy crust. I personally have had the pleasure of dining here twice, although that will grow in number.

Pizza Styles

They have a wonderful BBQ Chicken Pizza in which I had the pleasure of indulging. For pizza lovers, the portions are large and plentiful with all the necessary condiments. Nicky D’s offers individual as well as large hand crafted pizzas.

For Vegetarians

They serve a delicious array of mushrooms, black olives, artichokes, and bell peppers. These blends create their own special House Vegetarian Pizza! The menu offers a solution to your hunger problem regardless of your mood! Nicky D’s not only offers pizza, but Hero Sandwiches, Pasta (also baked in a wood-fired oven), Spaghetti, Calzones, Salads, and great desserts such as Cannolis, and Gelato.

Decor and Atmosphere

Nick and his wife Bunny, team up to run this unique pizza restaurant. They have been friendly, courteous and helpful on both of my visits. What I feel sets this place apart is they make you feel like a priority. They offer you a smile and a genuine, down to earth ambiance. The inside décor balances the feel of the old, splashed with the contemporary “new”. Inside you witness a mirage of paintings from Makoto Takigawa and along the wall a shelf with a collection of books for your reading enjoyment.

Alongside wooden tables that make room for all, you are surrounded by wonderful hues of brown, blue, green, beige and yellow. They also have a great outdoor patio surrounded with trees, a brick walkway, and a candle just for you on each table. Feel like a break? Hungry? Want to try something new, something different? Come on in and say hello to Nick yourself! One is sure to feel at home here, and if not: Nick’s charm will certainly put a smile on your face.

Prices

The prices are fair and inexpensive considering the portions of food. Entrees are $7 and under. For pizza, depending on your choice the prices range from $3.95 for any individual of your choice, and $12.95-$16.95 for a large.

The prices are very affordable for all you writers and artists looking to feed more than your creativity! I would definitely recommend this to friends, and all who want a nice, relaxing, and casual time out. Nicky D’s is good for all occasions. If you’re looking for a nice dinner over great conversation, or a special evening for two: come to Nicky D’s for that extra special attention. This is a great place to take a group, for their full size pizzas are plentiful.

Expansion

Nicky D’s opened in 2003 and are looking at rejuvenating the current atmosphere. Nick is looking into expanding the outdoor patio with an outside beer and wine bar, extra bathrooms, and an extra wood-fired oven with a personal chef outside. He wants to create more of a family-like atmosphere.

The Bottom Line

They always make good recommendations on the menu, and make sure you’re water or beverage of choice is always full. The restaurant is clean and cozy, with minor flaws. Sometimes small, can be beautiful. I feel this restaurant has great potential to be something even more than it is now, with its distinctive style in which a variety of “Silverlakers” will enjoy frequenting.
